People, we have a new Katniss Everdeen in town! Barely three years old, Dolly Shivani Cherukuri has become a master archer by setting a new national record in archery. Dolly lives in Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh in India. At the mere age of two, she has become the youngest person in her country to achieve more than 200 points in the skillful game of archery.
The two-year old Dolly used light carbon arrows for her training. She made 388 points in the archery trial. Initially, she shot 36 arrows at a target at the distance of 15 feet followed by 36 shots at 21 feet.
Although her accomplishment is quite extraordinary, Dolly hails from a family of archers after all. Her dad Cherukuri Satyanarayana runs an archery school in which Dolly religiously trains for 2 to 3 hours daily. Her dad admitted that he had dreamed of Dolly becoming a famous bowman when she was in the womb itself. Dollys older brother, Cherukuri Lenin, was an internationally recognized archer and coach. He died at the age of 26 in a road traffic accident. When Dolly was conceived, her parents hoped that she would one day become an archery champion. Looks like dreams do come true!
Her father, Satyanarayana, said in an interview, My daughter achieved the feat we have been dreaming. I cant express in words how happy my family is. Dolly will now try to set the new world record and enter Guinness Book of World Records. We wish you all the best, Dolly!
